Hello my name is Nellie, I am a sixteen week old English Bull Terrier who very
probably owes my life to the patience of a kind lady named Debbie. Within the
first seven weeks of arriving in my new home I had driven my parents to the
brink of despair and nearly marriage guidance! My new Mum and Dad had waited
nearly two years for the right puppy to come along
apparently I was it. Little did they know! I had other ideas and on arriving
home quickly became a very over bearing, aggressive and dominating young lady.
I simply wouldn't do anything I was told and took pleasure in biting my new
parents at every opportunity. If they tried to take away anything nice they
had given me I would growl and bare my teeth, I would lounge on the sofa
without being invited and would readily rip any items of clothing I could get
my teeth into. My parents worried I was a rogue puppy and I started to think I
might end up as dog meat, nevertheless I carried on my intolerable behaviour.
Finally things came to a head and in tears and desperation my Mum rang Debbie.
I visited her first for a behaviour assessment and shortly after for a weeks
stay. I hated it at first and gave Debbie a bit of the 'Mum and Dad
treatment'. I hadn't bargained on Debbie being stronger, more dominant and
confident than me and she just would not take any of my nonsense. Soon I was
actually enjoying my stay and Debbie pointed out to me with lots of hard work,
intensive training and cuddles how different life could be if I behaved
myself. She even went to the trouble of finding me a boyfriend for the week
who also brought me down a peg or two! By the end of the week I was having
loads of cuddles, no one shouted anymore and I even went back to Mum and Dad.
I'm certainly not perfect and still have lots of growing up to do, but
Debbie's calm, firm approach mingled with daily cuddles stopped me short of
the dogs home. Debbie will always be a special lady in my life and I know as
long as my parents carry on treating me with a firm but loving hand like she
did I will enjoy a long and happy Bully's life. My Mum and Dad said Debbie is
worth her weight in gold I don't know what that means but I'm sure they must
be right.
