Benefits of the Scheme

Several large sponsors are currently negotiating deals with us which will give a big incentive to people wishing to take the test.  There will be a launch through the national Media in May 2008.

Every person taking the test will receive a goodie bag of offers and product.

This project is about education and standards and is not aimed at failure.  Passes will be given at a variety of levels, dogs do not have to be perfect.  Anyone who fails will be encouraged to get help.

This project isn't just about dogs in council properties, we are all affected by control orders and potential breed bans.  To get the project up and running, some voluntary tests are being set up. If you or your dog club would like to participate, let us know.

Ask your Vet, Trainer, Groomer or Dog Walker if they would like to offer something to help the scheme, maybe a discount for certificate holders.

Contact YOUR council to ask if they will sign up to use the scheme and help you to prove you are a responsible pet owner.

The project aims to set some standards and offer help to those people who need it.  It isn't about taking dogs away or punishing dogs.

Lots of people experience bad ownership.  We all have to run the gauntlet of other dog owners who don't pick up poop, whose dogs run at ours when ours are under control.  Most owners know which houses to avoid and which dogs to avoid because it is likely they will be run and and barked at or worse.

These dogs don't need to be put down, they need help and so do the owners.

Owners of problem dogs often don't understand how their poor recall or lack of control affects others.  They are sometimes afraid that they will lose their dog if they try to get help and won't cooperate with the dog wardens who often are the ones trying to deal with too many complaints.

How much better it would be if these owners could safely get help and work towards a standard of behaviour and a better understanding and control.
